I bet you haven’t thought of this idea!
Try this free, easy, 2-3 minutes strategy that just might make a difference.
Are you feeling frustrated with your relationships? Not sure if you want to continue on if things don’t change? It’s tough to be in limbo without a clear strategy to move forward. You’ve read all the books and talked to other people for advice, but it seems hopeless. But wait, maybe there’s one more thing you can try.
Prayer. Yes, that’s what I said. Prayer. I just came across a great article written by Frank Fincham and Steven Beach published in the American Psychological Association Journal of Family Psychology that reveals the power of prayer to enhance commitment in a relationship. What’s interesting is that prayer for one’s partner didn’t change the partner – it changed the person praying - and increased their level of commitment to the relationship over time. It’s great when you see what happens in a counseling session be supported by research!
When couples in relationship for many years come in to my office struggling with their ability to break old patterns or to just like each other anymore, those with a spiritual belief are surprised when their homework includes dedicated time to pray for each other. What I have found is that it softens the heart toward the other person, and helps to increase positive feelings. It also gives the praying partner something tangible to do that makes them feel better and reminds them that they are not alone in the effort to have a happy marriage.
So, maybe just give it a try. It’s free. It only takes 2-3 minutes. And It might just make all the difference in the world.
